Illusion v1.5, NEW Ledge Grabbing!, Gameplay Trailer, Room Transitions, and MORE!

Hello everyone! As many of you have realized there was no new update for Illusion yesterday. That was because of the new gameplay trailer that was released yesterday! I did not have time to create the gameplay trailer and work on a new update for Illusion. However, I do have an update for you today! Illusion v1.5 brings many exciting changes. So lets just jump right into it!

Gameplay Trailer:

I have released this gameplay trailer yesterday (December 19th 2020) in order to attract more players to Illusion and to welcome said players to our growing community! I have been uploading updates and news regarding Illusion since I initially released Illusion v1.0 which was the first playable version of the game. This gameplay trailer also led to the creation of the YouTube channel Developer Jhin (Link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcBMN15c4s4PIw__lL0xb4A), which will contain future trailers (A story trailer will be in the works very soon!), general announcements, and finally Devlogs! The devlogs will be the same as the devlogs written here except the main difference being in video format. That does not mean we will be stopping these written devlogs. I will be releasing both types, A written devlog and a video devlog.

Ledge Grabbing:

Illusion v1.5 introduces Ledge Grabbing! I have been very hesitant to add ledge grabbing to Illusion as I feared that it would make the jump challenges that were available in the game easier. After working on it for a while I have developed a system although it does make it a little bit easier to complete the challenges now, It only becomes easier after learning and properly executing certain mechanics. So newer players to the game will still struggle with the jump puzzles just the same way our OG players who stuck around since v1.1 did. There is no new level in Illusion v1.5 that caters or properly implements/ forces the players to use ledge grabbing, the new level utilizing ledge grabbing will be released in Illusion v1.6 so make sure you keep an eye out for that!

Room Transitions:

Room transitions have been introduced to the game and honestly it has been a long time coming! The transitions between rooms in earlier versions (1.4 and earlier versions) made players confused as you would be taken into a new room almost instantly, leaving many players confused to what actually just happened! These room transitions have finally been added to the game, players now will know exactly when they have completed the level.

Mysterious Figure changes to progression:

In earlier versions of Illusion, you were forced to interact with the Mysterious Figure in order to progress through levels. This system was implemented in order to force players to interact with the Mysterious Figure due to the importance of what he had to say. Despite that I still want players to always interact with the Mysterious Figure, I think it is time for a systematic change to this ill system. You are no longer forced to interact with the Mysterious Figure in any level that is in the game and for future levels that would be added in upcoming updates!

PlayStation Controller Fixed:

Despite control compatibility was available since the game's launch, I have been having troubles properly implementing PlayStation controllers due to the fact that I am unable to test it myself. So controller compatibility was only available with Xbox controllers as I have an Xbox controller to test the game with. However, I am happy to announce that PlayStation controllers now work with Illusion, you can now plug and play using a PlayStation controller!

Throwing Knife Change:

As you know, the maximum number of throwing knifes you could hold at one time was 5 knifes. Whenever you had the maximum amount of knifes and an enemy dropped a throwing knife for you to pick up, you would still pick the knife up when you were already full. I have changed this system and now you can only pick up knifes when you have less throwing knives than the maximum amount, allowing players to properly use throwing knives and allowing them to leave knives on the ground and then pick them up later!

Bug Fixes:

  • Audio lag in the level with the Y moving platforms (the level after the tutorial level) has been fixed.
  • Fixed the walling on the second wall jump challenge, you could previously go throw a wall from the left side.

Thank you for reading the Devlog! See you in the next update! Don't forget to follow Developer Jhin and Illusion on itch.io!
